my sponsor taught me that i must be willin to support the things in my life that are good fer me. he told me that the days of livin off of others were done; i needed to give to receive. he told me if i wanted to try to be willin to live by the principles of this program, i needed to support myself, not only, emotionally, behaviorally, psychologically, and spiritually, but physically as well. when i am able to do this i benefit in many ways from it. havin faith in my HP that i may be able to support myself in these ways comes from bein able to support the things in my life that make me better. before i came into recovery, i was ALWAYS lookin fer a handout. gettin somethin fer nothin was what i thought life was all about; constantly searchin fer anythin i could get my hands on so i didnt have to work too hard to get what i wanted or needed. after i had come into this thing we do my sponsor told me that type of behavior needed to stop. he explained to me that i must work hard to get anythin good from life. he told me, as i looked back; to think of the things i cherished most and asked me where they were today. he made me think, i thought of all the things i had cherished most, and of all those things, i hadnt one to show him. it was a lesson fer me to learn. most anythin that has ever been any good fer me, or to me, i had to work to get and keep. recovery is much the same fer me, though my sobriety may be a free gift from my HP, my recovery from my alcoholism isnt. it takes hard work on my behalf to keep it. my recovery has to be self-supported or i may lose it as i have many other things in my life. 1 day @ a time…
