i would have been a fool to just run out and start makin amends without plannin em, learnin to say em rightly, and doin em all willy nilly, joel style, without my sponsors guidance. what a self-set-up for utter failure! now, before i had gotten too far into recovery, that was my plan. i thought i could just go to those i had harmed and tell em i was sorry and they would have to take it just as that. can ya see the failure in that? lemme ask ya, do ya see any recovery in that? that was how i thought the 8th step would go before i actually started livin the spiritual principles of recovery. simple theory is easy to understand, puttin that theory into practical use is a lil different. with my sponsors assistance i was able to make amends the way the big book teaches. havin gained enough willingness and humility, learnin how to see the wrong i had done others, i could make the necessary amends to those i had harmed clearin my side of the street and acceptin their wishes as to what i needed to do to make things as right as i could with em. that is NOT how i understood the 8th step when i had first read it. now lemme ask ya this, can ya see how livin the change recovery offers literally changed my behavior, therefore changin my thinkin? it was an essential act of faith and courage bein a co-worker with my HP, so i could live by His example, offerin honesty and brotherly love. by a mere change in behavior, i had an ability to live out what my sponsor and i had written down as i proceeded with my amends. with a pure heart in mind, i could admit my character and shortcomins, expressin my will to do as another asked. today, the life i experience in the moment, is one of freedom because of a hard done practice of the theory of the spiritual principles. my life had become unmanageable, it was powerless, but by doin the amends needed i get to learn how to live with peace of mind today, accomplishin things i could have NEVER done by my own will. 1 day @ a time...
