this thing we do keeps it simple. it has been my experience that it doesnt care to confuse its members with social classes or separate its members by background, ethnicity, sex, or nationality. for me, personally, i love its concept of inclusiveness. i have a purdy good idea where i would be today if i wasnt greeted with the spiritual principle of brotherly love. i was included, i was invited, i was accepted for who and what i was. the ones who came before me did not make me feel like i didnt belong. i look back and understand today the only one who could of or would keep me excluded from what they had to offer me was me, their arms and hearts were open to me. they didnt moralize or lecture, they knew all about the drinkin game, and shared their storys with me by tellin how they learned they were sick. they didnt cast criticism, blame, scorn, or judge me unfit. they were effective in their delivery and had a firm foundation of spiritual livin which made them truly humble and happy on the inside. those were the things they brought to me, they made me feel i could have what they had if i only did a few simple actions to want to change within. they were rock stars to me, but not at the expense of truth. they gave me unconditional love and were not hypocritical, they did what they said, and they said what they did. they listened, not only hearin what i told them about me, but honestly empathized and wanted me there. they taught me, with gentle help how to deal with both the good and bad i had brought with me. all the help i needed was mine for the askin. they taught me how to behave and live recovery when newcomers come into the rooms today. the program of action i live today has been shown me by the ones who were here when i came in. today i get to feel like my alcoholic condition will continue to be relieved if i continue to give away what they gave me. in fact, it has proved to be. what is now proved was once only imagined. any change to improve my nature was not anythin i came up with, all i had to do was do what they suggested and showed me. 1 day @ a time...
