the fellowship of this thing we do allows me the opportunity to look beyond myself. when im able, i get to see the people who surround the program as a whole. the circle in the symbol of recovery reminds me that i am not alone. the circle reminds me that once i come to an end, i get to start all over again. that life changes and evolves, just as my recovery does. it rotates and evolves so i may find a better position in life. i get to do this alongside another, not alone, as i once was in my active alcoholism. as my story clearly shows, when i strike out alone to combat my alcoholism, i fail. i need the unity of the program so i remain a part of the circle. with others i have the option to relax, so i may be effective. unity means i can give up the foolish idea of havin to live life alone. when i am a part of a whole, i get to be useful. i get to help another when they are strugglin. unity and harmony are the result of my willingness to surrender, to sacrifice myself, somethin i would never have done in the past, for the benefit of a society which means survival for myself and another. in the past i couldnt have a healthy relationship with another because my alcoholism wouldnt let me. recovery showed me, and taught me, how to have healthy, beneficial to all partys included, relationships. ive learned over my lifetime that strength comes in numbers. and the unity of this thing we do is most def a shinin example of that truth. when i see others grow and evolve, risin above their own struggles with the help of others, it gives me the optimism i need to continue to move forward in my own recovery. unity teaches me to live the change recovery offers into a behavior that aligns with my new values. 1 day @ a time...
