service is a principle that helps me to remember the reasons why i stay active in my program of recovery. it helps me to see people who are new to the program and reminds me of the state i was in when i walked through the doors for the first time. less i forget the way i felt when i walked in, service forward, by givin my time and effort, reminds me of the grace God has bestowed upon me. i am given this gift to not only stay sober myself, but to help me help others. recovery has given me a whole new set of friends. each of them strivin for the same thing i am tryin to do. i have found that when i am in times of doubt or fear that this group of people is there for me to help me to commit to the next right thing. they carry the message of recovery to me, teachin me to do the same for others. it is the action of my recovery that helps me to continue each day. doin the little things necessary to keep it helps me to keep my mind focused on my spiritual journey. for me, the mere suggestions are action-oriented MUSTS i have to do daily. God respects me when i put in the work, but He always loves me unconditionally either way. as i learn more about what love is and looks like, ive come to the understandin that what God most wants for me is my happiness, contentment, and peace. i get to arrive at the lovely situation of comin to understand that God is as happy with me at play as He is with me at work. its how this thing we do has changed my conceptions and motives. when they appear to be in the nature of huge emotional displacements and rearrangements i get to share and learn more about me. my self-willed ideas, emotions, and attitudes, which were once the selfish guidin forces of my life, have been suddenly cast to one side, and a completely new set of conceptions and motives have begun to dominate me. its my experience that a spiritual awakenin has been my greatest gift when nothing else worked before. why shouldnt i share this gift? 1 day @ a time...
