as my recovery has unfolded, i have witnessed the 9th step promises manifest in my life with a rhythm i could neither predict nor command. some appeared swiftly, others surfaced and withdrew before returning in greater depth, and still others required long perseverance. yet each, in time, proved true. i have come to know a new freedom and a new happiness; i have ceased fighting the past, recognizing that my experience can serve a useful purpose. fear of people and of economic insecurity has lessened, and a sense of serenity has taken root where chaos once prevailed. these promises embody a form of restorative Justice: they do not erase past wrongs but transfigure them, placing brokenness in service of healing. they represent not rewards for effort alone, but the confluence of diligence and grace. my task has been to practice the principles faithfully; the fulfillment of the promises belongs to my HP. thus, the 9th step promises reveal Justice as right relationship, between self, others, and God, whereby the distortions of my alcoholism give way to balance, freedom, and peace. 1 day @ a time...
