Celebrating Our Personal Stories of Healing & Recovery – Testimonials Can Change the World!

By Jamie Huysman, PsyD, LCSW

In a world saturated with noise, curated perfection, and filtered realities, there’s something radically transformative about a raw, unfiltered personal story. Especially when that story speaks of healing—of surviving, of reclaiming power. These narratives do more than recount events; they become mirrors, maps, and lifelines. They matter deeply.

Pain thrives in isolation. But when someone dares to speak their truth, it cracks the shell of silence that shame and stigma feed on. Stories of healing—especially those around trauma, mental health, addiction, or loss—dismantle the walls that keep us apart. They give others permission to speak, to feel, to begin.

A personal testimony is living proof that change is possible. It turns abstract hope into something tangible. Hearing “I’ve been there—and I made it through” can be more powerful than any advice or textbook. It’s a spark that ignites belief in others, even when they’re buried deep in despair.

Vulnerability is magnetic. When we open up, we invite others into a space of honesty and empathy. These stories remind us that we’re not alone, even in our darkest moments. They create bridges between strangers, communities, and generations. One person’s healing can inspire a movement. Think of the memoirs that changed minds, the podcasts that started revolutions, the Instagram posts that sparked global conversations. Stories travel. They reach people we’ll never meet, in places we’ll never go—and still, they heal.

Telling your story is an act of agency. It says: I own my narrative. I am not defined by what happened to me. It transforms wounds into wisdom, and pain into purpose. It’s not just catharsis—it’s revolution. Every voice carries weight. You don’t need a platform or a perfect ending—just the courage to speak. Your story might be the one that helps someone else believe in theirs. And that is no small thing.

To every survivor who has walked through the psychological hell of a Toxic Abusive Relationship (TAR), we see you. We honor your pain. And we believe—deeply—that your story holds the power to heal not only yourself, but countless others still trapped in the fog. At the STAR Network Foundation, we are building a sanctuary for truth, transformation, and collective recovery. Our initiative, TAR Tales, is not just a book or a website—it’s a movement. It’s a lighthouse in the storm for those navigating the wreckage of narcissistic abuse, attachment trauma, and the invisible epidemic of CPTSD.

Every story shared on tartales.org is a lifeline. It’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. It’s a message to the world: We are here. We have survived. And we are reclaiming our lives. Your words—raw, real, and courageous—are not just personal reflections. They are calls to action. They illuminate the path for others and serve as undeniable proof that healing is

possible. And more than that, they help us build the case for global support, organizational involvement, and grant funding to address what is truly a public health crisis.

We are calling on you—not just to share your story, but also your testimonial as to the healing you or others you may have experienced or observed in those who began healing their lives at TAR Anon®, our global fellowship of recovery.

Through Testimonial.to/star-network your voice becomes part of the STAR Network’s mission to bring TAR Anon communities to every corner of the world. Your testimonial is more than a personal milestone. It’s a rallying cry. It’s the evidence that organizations, foundations, and governments need to understand the urgency of this crisis. It’s the spark that can ignite widespread CPTSD recovery programs, trauma-informed care, and survivor-led healing initiatives.

If you’ve found strength through TAR Anon… If you’ve reclaimed your voice through STAR Network… If you’ve begun to heal, even just a little… share your testimonial. Let your words be the harbor light for someone still lost at sea. Let your truth be the reason a new TAR Anon group forms in a city that desperately needs it. Let your healing be the foundation for a world that finally understands the depth of narcissistic abuse and the necessity of trauma recovery.

From all of us at the STAR Network Foundation: thank you for your courage. Thank you for your authenticity. Thank you for being part of a “new family of choice and of this sacred movement. Together, we are not just survivors. We are architects of healing. We are the STARs lighting the way.

  1. This is the first I’ve heard of STAR, and I’m super curious to check it out. This particular recovery newsletter has been so very helpful to me! I actually just finished participating in a research study at UNM re: social connections in recovery.. that I would not have known about if I hadn’t found an e-mail from In the Rooms in my inbox. So thank you!

  2. I don’t know what to say other than ‘THIS IS AMAZING!’ I’m human too! Thanks
