when i think back of all that ive experienced in my recovery, its the times ive been able to use what ive learned about myself to make another smile from within. its the times ive helped another and seen the light come on in their eyes. its the times ive gotten letters from prisons or jails from people who couldnt or wouldnt listen at the time we spoke, but finally seen what i was sharin while sittin in their cell. or the times, after theyve done their time, and stopped by my house to thank me. or hear from someone back home. and for me to try to take credit for any of that would be pure ego or false pride steppin into my heart. for though they may have heard a message through me, it was my HP speakin to em, not me. i was just an avenue, i was just a way for their HP to speak to them. if i can give away what ive learned of self in a manner that helps another, i feel pleased, i feel blessed. whether its words or merely time, as long as another has felt up lifted or better after our time together, i feel good within. throughout my recovery ive heard others whove have maintained their recovery through sponsorship or just bein a trusted friend in recovery, say how theyve always received more from the one theyre speakin with or helpin, than the person who they were helpin. well, my story aint no different. its a blessin to be able to help others, whether they are in this thing we do or not. its like i get to live in harmony with all the laws of life, and spiritual principles God provides to me. i get to live with the strength to take each step, in order, and be in the right place at the right time. i aint gotta try to control when or how i do it, i just have to do it. today, i get to be useful. isnt that the essence of brotherly love? 1 day @ a time...
